Meet the Blog: She Treks

Posted on 16 January 20255 April 2025 By Sage Elliott

Meet She Treks. I am new to the Star Trek franchise and am watching my way through it for the first time. The purpose of She Treks is to document the process. Whether you are a new to Star Trek fan or a seasoned viewer, I hope that you might enjoy a fresh take on the franchise.

History

I didn’t grow up watching much science fiction. When I was a kid, the adults in my life didn’t really care about science fiction. It didn’t really occur to me that I could like it.

It wasn’t until I was an adult that I really discovered my love of science fiction. I started watching shows like Doctor Who, Babylon 5 and Farscape. Before long, I was in love.

I’d mostly been avoiding Star Trek. I want to say it was because of the sheer size of the franchise, but that didn’t stop me watching Doctor Who. So maybe I don’t really have a good explanation.

I recognize Star Trek’s impact on pop culture in general and science fiction in particular. I’m determined that 2025 is the year that I start to make a dent in the franchise. It’s not getting any smaller, damn it.

I have a confession to make: I’ve tried to start this blog in the past and never stuck with it. This time, I plan on sticking with it  – and using this space to discuss things that might get in the way.

Content

To begin with, I will be reviewing individual episodes of Star Trek, starting with The Original Series. As I gain more and more experience, I hope to expand to other topics. Maybe I’ll do some sort of character or theme deep dive. Maybe I’ll compare Star Trek to other science fiction franchises. Maybe I’ll do something else. Who knows. We’ll see how this goes.

New posts should go up every Wednesday at noon EST.
